DESCRIPTION:Join Bynum Front Porch for the Susie Crate and Joe Newberry Show on Sat\, Nov 1\, 7pm-8:30pm. Susie and Joe have been playing and singing together since the early 80s. They performed together in The Piedmont Hepcats (along with Ted Ehrhard and Allen Cottrell) and in The Radio Rangers (with Carl Jones and Nowell Creadick). They now reunite to sing old songs and share some new ones. \nDirections. See more Bynum Front Porch events. \nARTIST BIOS \nSusie Crate likes to think she has come full circle in her storytelling and singing. After a decade of singing and storytelling in the Piedmont Triangle from the early 1980s to the early 1990s\, Susie began traversing the globe\, mainly in the direction of Siberia\, where she ultimately built an academic career researching cultural adaptations to change overall and specifically to climate change. Now she has returned to her home in Bynum to begin the next chapter of her life\, bringing stories and songs both old and new. \nKnown around the world for his clawhammer banjo playing\, Joe Newberry is also an influential guitarist\, singer\, and songwriter. The Gibson Brothers’ version of his song “Singing As We Rise\,” featuring guest vocalist Ricky Skaggs\, won an  IBMA “Gospel Recorded Performance” Award. With Eric Gibson\, he shared an IBMA “Song of the Year” Award for “They Called It Music.” A longtime and frequent guest on A Prairie Home Companion\, he was a featured singer on the Transatlantic Sessions 2016 tour of the U.K. with fiddler Aly Bain and Dobro master Jerry Douglas\, and at the Transatlantic Session’s debut at Merlefest in 2017.  In addition to performing solo\, he plays in a duo with mandolin icon Mike Compton\, and also performs with the dynamic fiddler and step-dancer April Verch.”

In support of the 10th Annual Death Faire\, set aside sacred time to tend to your grieving heart. During this special event\, heart2heartnc offers the space to love fully\, grieve deeply\, and bring comfort to yourself and the community. Cathy Brooksie Edwards will lead you through a powerful journey of breathwork\, light movement\, and healing touch. As you travel the transformative spaces of the fall season\, musicians Amy Durso\, Lolly Dunlap\, Sheila Fleming\, and special guests Will Ridenour and Richard Edwards will provide a soulful soundscape. Hands-on healers will be present to provide light energy work during the soundscape’s rest period. \nPlease bring your own yoga mat\, water\, a blanket\, and any props that support your comfort as you relax in the stillness of your tender heart. Chairs will be available. Feel free to arrive several minutes early to prepare your spot and settle into your sacred space for participation. This free community event at Starrlight does not require advanced registration. Tax-deductible donations are welcome and support the ongoing work of heart2heartnc as they bring needed healing to the community. DESCRIPTION:Join the Chatham County Historical Association for The American Revolution: Life on the Home Front in Chatham County on Sun\, Nov 2\, 2pm-3:30pm at the Chatham County Historic Courthouse and Museum. \nAs we approach the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution\, most folks think first about the battles that took place during that war. But the majority of people living through the Revolution were not fighters. Their focus was on day-to-day survival\, complicated by shortages of food\, salt\, and currency\, as well as the knowledge that the war could arrive at their doorstep at any moment. \nJim Morgan is the creator of the website AmRevNC\, a website dedicated to the history of the American Revolution battles that took place in North Carolina. He is a writer and journalist with a fierce interest and deep knowledge of the American Revolution and will explain what life was like in Chatham County for these “other revolutionaries” on the home front during the seven long years of war. \nAll are welcome to attend this free event. This event takes place indoors. The historic courthouse meets federal ADA requirements. No pets allowed. Please leave your furry friends at home. In late October\, Hurricane Melissa devastated rural farming communities in St. Ann\, destroying 70% of the homes and 80% of the farms\, leaving families without shelter\, crops\, or a reliable income. This community event — led by Kingston 99’s Jason Rhoden (hails from the St. Ann community) — brings neighbors together to learn\, connect\, and give what they can toward recovery. \nThere will be a vendor market and live music\, along with food and drinks available for purchase from tenants at The Plant. Every dollar raised supports food\, seeds\, building materials\, and essential supplies. If you can’t attend in person\, you can donate directly to the GoFundMe supporting families in John Reid\, Cuffridge\, and Davis Town\, St. Ann. \nThis event takes place indoors and outdoors.
