SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. SUMMARY:Tinkering School NC
DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times. DESCRIPTION:The Stepping Stones Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Mon\, Jul 27-Fri\, Jul 31\, 9am-3pm\, is designed to give younger kids a stepping stone towards Clapping Hands Farm’s “big kid camps.” They’ll have gobs of counselor attention\, nurturing art teachers\, and the parts of a big kid camp\, but in a shorter day. Younger campers will get familiar with the farm\, the flow of their day camp\, and make connections with other campers\, all with a ton of gentle support from the staff. \nEach morning\, Louise Omoto Kessel will work with the five to seven-year-olds with an enormous assortment of art projects\, storytelling\, and favorite camp games. Seven to nine-year-olds will have their own leader. In the past\, this group has played cooperative games\, made art – including working together on big collaborative art projects\, built forts\, and told interactive stories with movement. They are finalizing camp leaders now\, so check back for more details on this group’s leader and activities. \nIn the afternoons\, they’ll have “Anything Goes” choice classes with tons of fantastic activities to choose from – art\, games\, toy making\, nature explorations\, engineering projects\, sensory activities\, creative challenges\, music\, dance\, and more. Morning and closing circles\, buddy group check-in\, and an all-camp activity will round out each day. \nThe cost is $350 per child. Ages 5-9 are welcome. Each group has its own indoor and outdoor spaces\, allowing flexibility and ease in adapting to the day’s rhythm to suit the children’s needs. Camp Director Heidi Watkins\, a mother of three and educator\, is on the farm at all times and is intimately involved in every aspect of running the camp and engaging the children at Sun Star Farm.  \nSprouts camp is for kids ages 3-4 and 6 months old and costs $300/week. Based at the main farmyard\, Saplings have loads of animal time and exploration. The schedule also includes fun group games\, water games\, and creek stomping. The cost for Saplings is $485/week. \nSeedlings are kids ages 4-5. Based at the main farmyard\, Seedlings take care of animals in the shade\, get drenched during water play\, eagerly dig for treasures\, and have plenty of space to run wild as their imaginations soar. The schedule also includes creek adventures and picnics in the shady forest.
