DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times. Once they cover skills and safety\, campers collaborate to create an awesome large-scale project based on a theme chosen late Monday/Tuesday morning\, depending on skill level\, interest\, and weather conditions. They use impact drivers\, cordless drills\, levels\, measuring tapes\, and other basic carpentry hand tools.  Each camper is given safety glasses and ear muff hearing protection. Every day\, they mix in group games\, visit farm animals\, explore the farm\, play water games\, and go down the water slide to keep cool. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. There is a 6:1 counselor-to-camper ratio. This camp is for children ages 9-12. \nCamp is $499/week. Early care starts at 8am and is $35/week. DESCRIPTION:The Stepping Stones Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Mon\, Jul 27-Fri\, Jul 31\, 9am-3pm\, is designed to give younger kids a stepping stone towards Clapping Hands Farm’s “big kid camps.” They’ll have gobs of counselor attention\, nurturing art teachers\, and the parts of a big kid camp\, but in a shorter day. Younger campers will get familiar with the farm\, the flow of their day camp\, and make connections with other campers\, all with a ton of gentle support from the staff. \nEach morning\, Louise Omoto Kessel will work with the five to seven-year-olds with an enormous assortment of art projects\, storytelling\, and favorite camp games. Seven to nine-year-olds will have their own leader. In the past\, this group has played cooperative games\, made art – including working together on big collaborative art projects\, built forts\, and told interactive stories with movement. They are finalizing camp leaders now\, so check back for more details on this group’s leader and activities. \nIn the afternoons\, they’ll have “Anything Goes” choice classes with tons of fantastic activities to choose from – art\, games\, toy making\, nature explorations\, engineering projects\, sensory activities\, creative challenges\, music\, dance\, and more. Morning and closing circles\, buddy group check-in\, and an all-camp activity will round out each day. \nThe cost is $350 per child. Ages 5-9 are welcome. DESCRIPTION:Join Cool Creek Farm for Summer Camps\, hosted during select weeks in June\, July\, and August 2026. Camp days follow an easy flow that starts with a morning circle and conversation\, and reading aloud of quality children’s literature. The bulk of the day is spent with campers choosing their own activities and using their imaginations. Campers can snack whenever they like\, but lunch is eaten together\, sometimes as a picnic under the Bald Cypress or giant Ash tree\, and then they read some more! Camp weeks are enhanced by a special visitor every Wednesday morning. A structured activity or form of entertainment is shared with the whole group. Seasonal free-play options throughout the day include: \n\nSports\, games\, and play structures.\nCrafts.\nCreek and sand play.\nVisiting with the goats and collecting eggs.\nFort building and tree climbing.\nSlip-n-sliding with a break for homemade popsicles.\nTrail walks and campfires.\n\nCamps occur on a 26-acre farm in Pittsboro\, NC\, run by Camp Director Melissa Frey and her adult daughter\, Marinne. Melissa provides structure\, safety\, and supplies to help campers accomplish their ideas for the day. Melissa is passionate about the benefits of significant free-play time for all ages\, away from electronics. SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times. SUMMARY:Stepping Stones Camp at Clapping Hands Farm
DESCRIPTION:The Stepping Stones Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Mon\, Jul 27-Fri\, Jul 31\, 9am-3pm\, is designed to give younger kids a stepping stone towards Clapping Hands Farm’s “big kid camps.” They’ll have gobs of counselor attention\, nurturing art teachers\, and the parts of a big kid camp\, but in a shorter day. Younger campers will get familiar with the farm\, the flow of their day camp\, and make connections with other campers\, all with a ton of gentle support from the staff. \nEach morning\, Louise Omoto Kessel will work with the five to seven-year-olds with an enormous assortment of art projects\, storytelling\, and favorite camp games. Seven to nine-year-olds will have their own leader. In the past\, this group has played cooperative games\, made art – including working together on big collaborative art projects\, built forts\, and told interactive stories with movement. They are finalizing camp leaders now\, so check back for more details on this group’s leader and activities. \nIn the afternoons\, they’ll have “Anything Goes” choice classes with tons of fantastic activities to choose from – art\, games\, toy making\, nature explorations\, engineering projects\, sensory activities\, creative challenges\, music\, dance\, and more. Morning and closing circles\, buddy group check-in\, and an all-camp activity will round out each day. \nThe cost is $350 per child. Ages 5-9 are welcome. SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. SUMMARY:Tinkering School NC
DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times.
