DESCRIPTION:Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge is thrilled to offer their first-ever LEAP (Leaders for Ethics\, Animals\, and the Planet) Summer Camp\, held Mon\, Jul 20-Thu\, Jul 24\, 8am-4pm. A compassionate alternative to 4-H\, this FREE Summer Camp for incoming 9th-12th graders offers community building\, leadership training\, hands-on learning\, and quality time getting to know their animal residents. Participants will also learn all about the Refuge’s pioneering approach to designing and building animal habitats\, which they call Animal-Centered Design. Campers will participate in animal care in a sanctuary setting\, practice climate-friendly cooking with a vegan chef\, develop leadership skills\, engage in therapeutic art practices\, and build community with their staff\, volunteers\, animal residents\, and one another. \nThe cost is FREE\, and includes daily vegan snacks and lunches; applications are required. Camps heavily focus on play\, allowing children space and time to live fully in it.  \nAll weeks include a ton of one-on-one time with farm animals\, gardening\, crafting\, hiking\, creek adventures\, songs\, games\, and more! Campers usually make unusual crafts using natural materials and techniques that follow the weekly themes. The farm camp is split into four age groups to offer age-appropriate activities\, stories\, creative projects\, and learning opportunities (see Sun Star Farm Camp for kids ages 4-12). Each group has its own indoor and outdoor spaces\, allowing flexibility and ease in adapting to the day’s rhythm to suit the children’s needs. Camp Director Heidi Watkins\, a mother of three and educator\, is on the farm at all times and is intimately involved in every aspect of running the camp and engaging the children at Sun Star Farm.  \nSprouts camp is for kids ages 3-4 and 6 months old and costs $300/week. DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. DESCRIPTION:The Bynum Front Porch Music Series takes place every Friday\, May-Aug\, 7pm-8:30pm at the Historic Bynum General Store\, featuring a variety of bands spanning multiple musical genres\, including gospel\, folk\, blues\, rockabilly\, and bluegrass. You can park at the Bynum ball field or in the field adjacent to the store. Doors open at 6:30pm\, and food trucks are on-site. Directions. There is an outdoor stage (and an indoor one if it rains).
