In this workshop\, Lee Kazanas will join host Susan Baker Cartledge to discuss his own failures and successes with glazes and to help troubleshoot why he thinks your pieces turned out the way they did. DESCRIPTION:Join For Garden’s Sake for Introduction to the Art of Bonsai. This engaging class is for those interested in learning about this fascinating horticultural art form. The class and hands-on workshop will teach the aesthetic aspects of classical bonsai\, as well as the technical and horticultural fundamentals you’ll need to enjoy this wonderful hobby. The class will cover bonsai styles\, design\, pruning\, wiring\, container selection\, potting\, and care. Classes are held on the following dates: \n\nSat\, Apr 18\, 10am-2pm.\nSat\, May 16\, 10am-2pm.\n\nInstructor Ken Hallatt is a bonsai artist\, educator\, and owner of Carolina Bonsai. He has over 40 years of experience\, has trained with many gifted international bonsai artists\, and enjoys sharing this “growing art” with others. He was previously the President of the Triangle Bonsai Society. \nThe fee for this class is $85 per person and includes all workshop materials you’ll need to create your very own bonsai\, an introductory bonsai book\, a detailed aftercare guide for your new tree\, and light hors d’oeuvres. DESCRIPTION:As part of Chatham County’s year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday\, the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) is hosting an NC History Book Club: Between the Lines\, held on the third Saturday of every month in 2026\, from 9:30am-10:30am. This monthly book club will explore North Carolina’s rich history through engaging nonfiction. Whether you’re a lifelong history lover or are simply curious about the people and events that shaped our state\, join CCHA for conversation and lively discussion. \nRegister here for the June 2026 session\, where you will discuss Fire on the Beach: Recovering the Lost Story of Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers by David Wright and David Zoby. Fire on the Beach explores the dangers of 19th-century coastal transportation along North Carolina’s “Graveyard of the Atlantic\,” where ships carrying goods and people faced constant danger. Through the story of Richard Etheridge and the all-black crew of the US Life-Saving Service\, the crew faced discrimination and the dangers of the Atlantic\, yet rose to heroism in their service. Participation is free\, and you are welcome to bring friends. This month’s event takes place Sat\, Jun 20\, 9:30am-10:30am at the Chatham County Courthouse and Historical Museum. \nAll are welcome\, and admission is free.
