DESCRIPTION:The Artful Life Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Mon\, May 11-Fri\, May 15\, 9am-5pm\, brings together Clapping Hands Farm alums and brand new people who share the experience of being young adults who value living intentionally and creatively in a community. You do not have to identify as an artist to come to this camp\, but you will explore the artistic process both for the joy of creating and seeing what these creative endeavors can show and teach you about how to live. Activities will include: \n\nGetting messy with visual arts.\nMoving and grooving with music and dance.\nDiving deep into your journals\, stories\, and conversations.\nGetting silly with random activities.\nProtecting space for some “serious” relaxation.\nPlaying hard with some big all-camp games.\n\nThe day will include a variety of workshops in the morning and afternoon: \n\nDrumming\, songwriting\, and music jams.\nBook and printmaking.\nFinger painting and body art.\nForaging and nature mandalas.\nArchery and ultimate frisbee.\nNap time with Kora music.\n\nThe camp day will also include morning and closing circles\, a small-group check-in\, and an invitation to begin the day with meditation\, movement\, or art. Guest artists will share about their Artful Life\, with a chance to reflect on your own journey after hearing their story. On Friday\, the camp day is extended for a Burrito Bash potluck. \nLouise Omoto Kessel will be your guide for this week\, along with an excellent selection of guest artists. Louise is a storyteller and a printmaker\, and she loves to felt\, collage\, and make all manner of things. She is also the founder and director of Clapping Hands Farm and the mother of two young adults. \nThe cost is $325 per person. Ages 19-30 are welcome. DESCRIPTION:As part of Chatham County’s year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday\, the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) is hosting an NC History Book Club: Between the Lines\, held on the third Saturday of every month in 2026\, from 9:30am-10:30am. This monthly book club will explore North Carolina’s rich history through engaging nonfiction. Whether you’re a lifelong history lover or are simply curious about the people and events that shaped our state\, join CCHA for conversation and lively discussion. \nThe April selection is ‘Naked Genius’\, by George Moses Horton\, a book of poetry first published in 1865. George Moses Horton was the first African American author to be published in the United States. Born a slave on a North Carolina tobacco plantation\, he was named the Poet Laureate of Chatham County\, where he spent most of his life. This month’s event takes place Sat\, Apr 18\, 9:30am-10:30am at the Chatham County Courthouse and Historical Museum. \nAll are welcome\, and admission is free. SUMMARY:NC History Book Club: Between the Lines
DESCRIPTION:As part of Chatham County’s year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday\, the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) is hosting an NC History Book Club: Between the Lines\, held on the third Saturday of every month in 2026\, from 9:30am-10:30am. This monthly book club will explore North Carolina’s rich history through engaging nonfiction. Whether you’re a lifelong history lover or are simply curious about the people and events that shaped our state\, join CCHA for conversation and lively discussion. \nThe April selection is ‘Naked Genius’\, by George Moses Horton\, a book of poetry first published in 1865. George Moses Horton was the first African American author to be published in the United States. Born a slave on a North Carolina tobacco plantation\, he was named the Poet Laureate of Chatham County\, where he spent most of his life. This month’s event takes place Sat\, Apr 18\, 9:30am-10:30am at the Chatham County Courthouse and Historical Museum. \nAll are welcome\, and admission is free. DESCRIPTION:The Teen Everything Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Mon\, Jul 13-Fri\, Jul 17\, 9am-5pm\, is all about teens spending the week outside playing\, exploring\, getting artsy\, and connecting with peers and Clapping Hands’ outstanding staff. Every morning and afternoon\, they will have featured guest artists and choice classes to pick from. You’ll get to a little of everything they have to offer at camp\, thanks to their talented staff\, special guests\, and extensive store of games\, art supplies\, and cool stuff! Possibilities include: \n\nAn unbelievable variety of craft projects and art supplies to use.\nBig games like capture the flag\, ultimate frisbee\, kickball\, and rainbow tag.\nMusic jams\, instrument lessons\, dancing\, and songwriting.\nJournaling\, reading\, and discussing topics you’re interested in.\nExploring the forest\, fields\, trails\, and pond with canoes.\n\nTeens will have the opportunity to request their favorite activities\, and they will include as many of them as possible\, making sure your teen’s identity\, ideas\, and preferences are heard and valued all week long. There will be a sharing for parents and families on Fri\, Jul 17 at 4pm\, followed by a potluck dinner! \nThe cost is $350 per teen. Ages 13-19 are welcome. DESCRIPTION:As part of Chatham County’s year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday\, the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) is hosting an NC History Book Club: Between the Lines\, held on the third Saturday of every month in 2026\, from 9:30am-10:30am. This monthly book club will explore North Carolina’s rich history through engaging nonfiction. Whether you’re a lifelong history lover or are simply curious about the people and events that shaped our state\, join CCHA for conversation and lively discussion. \nThe April selection is ‘Naked Genius’\, by George Moses Horton\, a book of poetry first published in 1865. George Moses Horton was the first African American author to be published in the United States. Born a slave on a North Carolina tobacco plantation\, he was named the Poet Laureate of Chatham County\, where he spent most of his life. This month’s event takes place Sat\, Apr 18\, 9:30am-10:30am at the Chatham County Courthouse and Historical Museum. \nAll are welcome\, and admission is free.
