DESCRIPTION:As part of Chatham County’s year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday\, the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) is hosting an NC History Book Club: Between the Lines\, held on the third Saturday of every month in 2026\, from 9:30am-10:30am. This monthly book club will explore North Carolina’s rich history through engaging nonfiction. Whether you’re a lifelong history lover or are simply curious about the people and events that shaped our state\, join CCHA for conversation and lively discussion. \nRegister here for the June 2026 session\, where you will discuss Fire on the Beach: Recovering the Lost Story of Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers by David Wright and David Zoby. Fire on the Beach explores the dangers of 19th-century coastal transportation along North Carolina’s “Graveyard of the Atlantic\,” where ships carrying goods and people faced constant danger. Through the story of Richard Etheridge and the all-black crew of the US Life-Saving Service\, the crew faced discrimination and the dangers of the Atlantic\, yet rose to heroism in their service. Participation is free\, and you are welcome to bring friends. This month’s event takes place Sat\, Jun 20\, 9:30am-10:30am at the Chatham County Courthouse and Historical Museum. \nAll are welcome\, and admission is free. DESCRIPTION:Join Starrlight Mead for a Mead and Book Making workshop on Sun\, Jun 21\, 1:30pm-4:30pm. The only thing that goes together better than Starrlight and a good book is making your own! Pittsboro book artist Josh Hockensmith of Blue Bluer Books will walk you through the basics of bookbinding with demonstrations and activities. This workshop is perfect for beginners – but even if you took their previous workshop\, you will learn a new\, elegant style of binding this time! You’ll warm up by making sewn pamphlets and then move on to the more sophisticated Japanese-style stab binding. \nThis class is $45 per person and $30 for each additional member of your party. Registration includes all materials and one drink. Adults 21 and older only\, please. This event takes place indoors. Starrlight Mead is part of The Plant. The space is wheelchair accessible\, with parking and entry available behind the production facility. Additional free parking is available on-site. Pets are not allowed.
