The lessons start at 6pm\, so bring your dancing shoes! 1920’s 1920s-period clothing is optional but certainly not discouraged. DESCRIPTION:Community members of all ages are invited to celebrate Creek Geeks Field Day 2025 on Sat\, Mar 15\, 12pm-3pm on the Loves Creek Greenway at Bray Park. The Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District is collaborating with Outdoor Science Labs\, the Town of Siler City Parks and Recreation\, Loves Creek Watershed Stewards\, and additional community partners for this free and family-friendly event. \nAttendees will be able to participate in several interactive activities\, including: \n\nExplore some techniques used in stream health assessment and water quality testing in Loves Creek.\nInvestigate macro invertebrate critters living in the creek.\nThe Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District will demonstrate point and non-point source pollution using an EnviroSccape watershed model.\nSoil Waste & Recycling will be there with a hands-on activity to learn more about how plastics interact with our waterways.\nMeet staff from the Chatham County Watershed Protection Department\, get to know some local creeks\, and learn about how everyone affects the water quality in our local waterways.\nLearn more about common snakes in the area. You’ll meet two friendly non-native snakes\, a 20-year-old Mexican Rosy Boa named Ellie and a 34-year-old Ball Python named Botswana.\nBoy Scout Troop 922 will be doing a trash cleanup during Creek Geeks Fied Day. The public is welcomed and encouraged to utilize on-site supplies to assist with their effort. To keep everyone as safe as possible\, we will be cleaning trash that is easily accessible along the greenway\, not venturing into the water or tackling any large objects.\nThe Fig Buttercup Project will have information materials describing how to identify and manage the highly invasive plant found along river corridors called Fig Buttercup.\n\nCreek Geeks Field Day is part of Chatham County Creek Week\, Mar 15-22\, which celebrates the four rivers and numerous creeks that provide water for the residents\, animals\, and plants that live in Chatham County\, as well as the waterways in surrounding counties of the Piedmont region. Creek geeks may check in at the registration table in the Bray Park parking lot and should be prepared to sign waivers. Participants should also wear comfortable shoes for walking and clothing that may get wet. DESCRIPTION:Join Circle City Merchants for the 2nd Annual Pittsboro Treasure Quest Sat\, Sep 30\, 9:30am-3pm. This event is a scavenger hunt that will take your team through challenges and adventures in and around downtown Pittsboro. \nTeams of 2 to 6 people will move through Pittsboro businesses\, completing challenges and accruing points. The cost to participate is $45 per team. Check-in is from 9:30am-10:45am at Havoc Brewing Company. Breakfast\, coffee\, and juice will be provided for participants from local restaurants. Upon sign-in\, each team will receive a swag bag with coupons from local businesses\, snacks\, and their first clue. Teams who accrue the most points for challenges completed will win big prizes! \n1st place wins $500\, 2nd wins $300\, and 3rd wins $200. There are also great prize baskets for Unique Team Name\, Most Enthusiastic/Team Spirit\, and Best Costumes\, so get those creative juices flowing! Read more about recent happenings in our blog: Hop Into Spring\, Sustainable Styled Shoot at Old Lystra Inn. \nTravel is a job creator\, economic engine\, educator\, pro-family and pro-health.\n• Travel is one of America’s largest industries.\n• The 2020 report* showed that travel and tourism in Chatham County directly employed more than 514 people.\n• The report also measures the positive impact of tourism on taxes. In 2020\, visitor-related business in Chatham County generated approximately $48.1 million in revenue and $2.3 million in local sales tax and property tax revenues. This is an estimated tax savings of $60.01 per county resident. \n*North Carolina Division of Tourism\, Film and Sports released the results of the annual study conducted by the U.S. Travel Association.

SUMMARY:Creek Geeks Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Community members of all ages are invited to join the Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District for the second annual Creeks Greeks Field Day on Sat\, Apr 22\, 1pm-3:30pm at Boling Lane Park. This event is free and open to the public. The rain date for this event is Sun\, Apr 23. \nThe Town of Siler City installed Best Management Practices (BMPs) at Boling Lane Park such as wetlands and riparian buffers. Chatham Soil and Water Conservation staff will provide tours of the park where they will discuss the BMPs\, native vegetation\, and the overall benefits for the Loves Creek Watershed. \nAttendees will be able to participate in several interactive activities including: \n\nExploring some of the techniques used in stream health assessment and water quality testing in the creek running along Boling Lane Park.\nSearching for macroinvertebrate critters living in the creek.\nMeasuring chemical and physical parameters to assess the water quality.\nUsing an EnviroScrape watershed model to learn how nonpoint source pollutants affect waterways.\nLearning how to make small changes\, as individuals and collectively\, which add up to a large impact.\n\nEach of these activities will repeat every 45 minutes to give attendees a chance to visit them all. The Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District will distribute education activity books as well. Residents who wish to attend are asked to register online here.
