DESCRIPTION:Community members of all ages are invited to celebrate Creek Geeks Field Day 2025 on Sat\, Mar 15\, 12pm-3pm on the Loves Creek Greenway at Bray Park. The Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District is collaborating with Outdoor Science Labs\, the Town of Siler City Parks and Recreation\, Loves Creek Watershed Stewards\, and additional community partners for this free and family-friendly event. \nAttendees will be able to participate in several interactive activities\, including: \n\nExplore some techniques used in stream health assessment and water quality testing in Loves Creek.\nInvestigate macro invertebrate critters living in the creek.\nThe Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District will demonstrate point and non-point source pollution using an EnviroSccape watershed model.\nSoil Waste & Recycling will be there with a hands-on activity to learn more about how plastics interact with our waterways.\nMeet staff from the Chatham County Watershed Protection Department\, get to know some local creeks\, and learn about how everyone affects the water quality in our local waterways.\nLearn more about common snakes in the area. You’ll meet two friendly non-native snakes\, a 20-year-old Mexican Rosy Boa named Ellie and a 34-year-old Ball Python named Botswana.\nBoy Scout Troop 922 will be doing a trash cleanup during Creek Geeks Fied Day. The public is welcomed and encouraged to utilize on-site supplies to assist with their effort. To keep everyone as safe as possible\, we will be cleaning trash that is easily accessible along the greenway\, not venturing into the water or tackling any large objects.\nThe Fig Buttercup Project will have information materials describing how to identify and manage the highly invasive plant found along river corridors called Fig Buttercup.\n\nCreek Geeks Field Day is part of Chatham County Creek Week\, Mar 15-22\, which celebrates the four rivers and numerous creeks that provide water for the residents\, animals\, and plants that live in Chatham County\, as well as the waterways in surrounding counties of the Piedmont region. Creek geeks may check in at the registration table in the Bray Park parking lot and should be prepared to sign waivers. Participants should also wear comfortable shoes for walking and clothing that may get wet. DESCRIPTION:The Big What? is a multi-night outdoor Summer music festival and campout hosted by Big Something and Possum Holler Productions. Now in its 10th year\, It has become one of the bands’ favorite traditions\, with fans\, friends\, and family in attendance from across the country. Each year\, the festival features a musical and artistic experience curated by Big Something with many of the bands’ favorite local\, regional\, and national touring artists. This year’s event takes place Thu\, Aug 21-Sat\, Aug 23 at the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center. Get your tickets here. \nPast performers include: Vulfpeck\, Cory Wong\, Sammy Rae & The Friends\, Butcher Brown\, Maggie Rose\, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong\, Daily Bread\, Too Many Zooz\, Sunsquabi\, The Nth Power\, Becca Stevens\, Larry Keel\, Dopapod\, Tauk\, Aqueous\, Toubab Krewe\, Everyone Orchestra\, Jimkata\, Consider The Source and many more! \nCAMPING \nTent camping (or hammock camping) is encouraged and included in the ticket price. DESCRIPTION:Dozens of artists\, creating in a myriad of media\, are represented in this annual Come Out and Play Sculpture Show\, now in its 24th year. The event takes place on a 17-acre homestead and is a gift from hosts to guests and artists. Artists do not pay a participation fee and keep all proceeds from their sales (many of the works on display are for sale). There are some out-of-state artists\, but most are local to North Carolina. DESCRIPTION:After rescheduling their annual summer celebration due to inclement weather\, The Pittsboro Business Association proudly presents Pittsboro End-of-Summer Fest on Sun\, Sep 7\, 4pm-8pm. Enjoy all the usual Summer Fest activities\, but in (hopefully) cooler temperatures. Activities typically include a Decorated Bicycle Parade\, juggling\, giant balloons\, hula hooping\, balloon animals\, a duck pond for prizes\, axe throwing\, and fun for the whole family. There will also be food trucks and local vendors. Enjoy live music from SouLe and the Super Band and Your Mama’s New Boyfriend. \nThis celebration takes place at the Pittsboro Pop-Up park between Salisbury and Hanks streets in downtown Pittsboro. This venue is wheelchair accessible. Leashed pets are allowed\, but discouraged. \nThe Chatham County Historical Association wouldn’t miss Pittsboro’s Summerfest\, and you shouldn’t either! Stop by their table to say hi\, and be sure to bring your own stories about Old Chatham County—they’d love to hear them! Summerfest is sponsored by the Pittsboro Business Association\, and the Chatham County History Association is a proud participant.

DESCRIPTION:Looking forward to beautiful early fall days at the Annual Hoppin’ John Fiddlers’ Convention Thu\, Sep 11-Sat\, Sep 13! Planning has begun\, and they are working to bring you another great year of the unique blend of old-time fiddlers’ conventions and traditional music festival that has become Hoppin’ John. Tickets go on sale Sun\, Jun 15\, 2025. Rates for weekend and single-day admission\, as well as camping\, can be found here. \nDetails for this year’s festival are TBD\, but there are always workshops\, showcases\, dances\, contests (including the Hoppin’ John Cook-Off)\, family activities\, and\, of course\, great music! Hosted annually at the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center. \nPETS \nBringing your dog to Hoppin’ John is highly discouraged. However\, your furry friends are allowed if they are contained on a leash at all times. You must pay the dog admission price ($10) for each dog. They reserve the right to ask you and your dog to leave if he or she is behaving badly or they are not leashed/contained. You must clean up after your dog. Dogs over 20 pounds may not venture from your campsite.
