DESCRIPTION:Golfers\, grab your clubs for a day of fun and fellowship for a good cause as the Central Carolina Community College Foundation hosts its 12th Annual Chatham County Golf Classic on Wed\, May 21\, 9am-2pm at Chapel Ridge Golf Club. The format for the Chatham County Golf Classic is four-person Captain’s Choice. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams in each flight. Shotgun starts at 9am\, with lunch from 1pm-2pm.  \nThe Chatham County Golf Classic registration form can be downloaded from the Foundation’s website. Registration is also available by contacting CCCC Director of Community Engagement Alexandra Dowdy at (919) 718-7338 or by email at adowdy@cccc.edu. \nThe proceeds from the Golf Classic will be used to help provide scholarships and other financial assistance. The CCCC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with\, but independent of\, Central Carolina Community College. SUMMARY:Tobacco Road Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Tobacco Road Marathon and Half-Marathon feature over 20 miles of the American Tobacco Trail (including 4 miles of Chatham County\, NC). Up to twenty percent of their runners qualify for the Legendary Boston Marathon. Less experienced runners benefit\, too\, as the fast and flat energy-absorbing course and ideal spring temperatures make it an excellent venue for your next personal record!  \nThe 16th Annual Tobacco Road Marathon and Half Marathon is Sun\, Mar 14\, 2027. As in prior years\, both races will begin at 7am on Brooks Park Lane and head towards the entrance of Thomas Brooks Park. The first and last 2.5 miles of both races are on paved roadways. The ATT surface is compacted screenings\, with some sections combining this with asphalt. \nWhether you are participating or cheering for a friend or family member\, there is plenty to do in our area – local eateries\, places to stay\, craft beverage tastings and tours\, wineries\, nature activities\, golf\, shopping\, and more. Take advantage of all that Chatham County has to offer!  \nThe Tobacco Road Marathon is organized by a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing partner charities with financial assistance by channeling passionate runners everywhere\, particularly those in the North Carolina Triangle area\, into a powerful force for good. Over the years\, the event has raised over $1.7 million for charities\, including the American Red Cross\, JDRF\, Hope for the Warriors\, and Triangle Rails to Trails Conservancy (ATT is a Rails to Trails project).  \nThe inaugural event was held Mar 21\, 2010\, with over 3\,400 registered runners representing 39 states. Approximately 4\,000 runners and thousands of spectators will attend this year’s event. In 2014\, Runner’s World Magazine named the Tobacco Road Marathon one of the top ten best new marathons.

DESCRIPTION:Join Clean Up Jordan Lake for their 2026 Annual Spring Cleanup on Sat\, Mar 14\, 8:30am-12pm. Clean Jordan Lake is joining a group of local organizations hosting cleanup events as part of Creek Week activities\, including the Chatham County\, Orange County\, and Keep Durham Beautiful. Assignments include: \n\nWalkers: You will be divided into groups at registration.\nBoaters: Boaters are needed to ferry some volunteers to their cleanup track and back\, and also to help haul trash back to the dumpster at the Corps Bulkhead. Boaters who wish to ferry volunteers only are welcome. They will loan 2-way radios to boaters for communication.\nKayakers: Come to the registration table at 8:45am to receive assignments from CJL leaders.\n\nThis year\, they continue their tradition of offering a Trash Treasure Hunt. Items marked by “CJL TTH” are shown to the track captain\, who will issue a CJL business card redeemable for a merchandise prize at the registration table. Coffee and pastries will be available during registration. \nAll volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and work gloves (provided or bring your own). They strongly recommend long pants\, a long-sleeve shirt\, and a hat. Shoreline Track Captains will be present to guide volunteers. Volunteers will be provided with bags\, trash grabbers\, first-aid kits\, water\, and gloves\, if needed. Pontoon boat and operator courtesy of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers \nAll participants must complete a liability waiver form online before the event. Runners will follow greenways\, sidewalks\, and shoulders. The 5K and 10K will share the course with 5K runners\, turning around slightly earlier. Walkers are welcome. Pets are not allowed on the race course. Any type of chili is eligible and will be judged on the following criteria: \n\nAroma: Does it smell appetizing?\nAppearance: Is the color rich and appealing? Does it look appetizing and reflect its ingredients?\nConsistency: Is it a smooth\, balanced blend of ingredients? Avoid watery\, greasy\, grainy\, or overly thick/lumpy textures.\n Taste: Is there a good blend of flavor? No single ingredient should dominate.\nAftertaste: Should not leave behind a bitter/metallic taste\, and the heat should fade nicely.\n\nEach category will be ranked on a scale of 1-5\, with 1 being the worst and 5 the best. 2-3 judges will be present to blind-taste each contestant’s chili and score it according to the above criteria. There is no cooking on site. Everything must be prepared in advance and kept warm throughout the event. If you wish to bring toppings/sides\, you may do so\, but you will be judged on the chili alone. There is a $15 buy-in to compete as a contestant. This includes a T-shirt\, 2 draft beers on the day of\, and a chili cookbook featuring all the contestants’ chili recipes after the competition.
