The pottery studio offers two firings a year\, with Kiln Openings in late May/early Jun and late Nov/early Dec. \nSummer Kiln Opening at Mark Hewitt Pottery – Open Dates & Times \n\nSat\, May 30\, 10am-5pm.\nSun\, May 31\, 12pm-5pm.\nSat\, Jun 6\, 10am-5pm.\nSun\, Jun 7\, 12pm-5pm.\n\nSince 1983\, Mark has been making beautiful\, functional\, and decorative pots using locally sourced materials and firing them in a large wood-burning kiln in Pittsboro\, NC. Mark Hewitt Pottery carries a selection of his finely crafted pottery in their barn/showroom and is open year-round by appointment to visit and to shop. DESCRIPTION:Community members from every walk of life are invited to Chatham County’s Race Amity Day on Sat\, Jun 13\, 9:30am-3:30pm. This national observance is dedicated to fostering understanding\, respect\, and cooperation among all people. This year’s theme\, “We Walk This Path Together\,” brings together history\, fellowship\, and celebration. The Pittsboro celebration reflects the unique history and vibrant diversity of Chatham County. \nThe day begins at 9:30am with a Mindful Unity Walk from Pittsboro’s Pop-Up Park (50 W. Salisbury Street). Participants will walk together through downtown\, accompanied by live Peruvian music to George Moses Horton Middle School (79 Horton Street\, Pittsboro). Free Race Amity Day T-Shirts will be available for the first 100 walkers. \nNot up for the walk? No worries! Join them for the day’s festivities at George Moses Horton Middle School at 10am\, for fellowship\, family\, activities\, music\, food trucks\, and free ice cream compliments of Circle City Ice Cream. This is an opportunity to share a meal and build connections. The day continues from 1pm-3:30pm with a Race Amity Day proclamation\, a special message of encouragement recognizing the importance of this work\, remarks from invited civic leaders\, and music and dramatic performances that reflect the spirit of unity and shared humanity. As part of the program\, community organizations will host informational tables\, offering opportunities for engagement and continued dialogue. Contributions advancing understanding\, equity\, and connection across Chatham County will be recognized. \nHosted by Partners in Racial Justice and community supporters\, the event is open to everyone. Not only that\, you get a spread of delectable food catered by 39 West Catering\, live music from Mondo Guitaro\, and door prizes. The food and lineup will be announced closer to the festival date. \nTickets are on sale now for $60 per person and can be purchased at Vino!! Wine Shop (cash or check only). Parking will be available at Chatham Mills (please follow the event parking signs). \nPlease note: This is NOT an NC wine festival or a seated event. SUMMARY:Juneteenth Black Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:Community Organizing for Racial Equity (CORE) welcomes you to participate in their Annual Juneteenth Black Arts Festival on Sat\, Jun 20\, 2026\, 2pm-6pm at the Chatham County Fairgrounds. Since 2018\, the Juneteenth event has undergone significant transformation\, growing from its initial location\, which accommodated 100 people\, to one that now draws over 3\,000 attendees from across the Triangle region. \nJuneteenth Black Arts Festival is a dedicated space of reverence for the impact of Black arts and culture on American culture. They commit to offering an opportunity for Black artists and entrepreneurs to build relationships and increase their exposure across communities. They honor the creative genius and spirit of excellence that prevails within the Black community because they recognize barriers that remain in place today\, excluding them from mainstream business opportunities. \nAll are welcome to this free community event. They have quite a festival planned for this year’s celebration\, which will highlight Black artists\, both local and from afar; educational opportunities about Juneteenth\, the history of the celebration\, and the resilience of Black culture through Black arts; and a vision for liberation. Attendees can also enjoy live entertainment\, art\, a Black business expo\, food trucks\, a heritage walk\, and kids’ activities\, all while challenging stereotypes and building pride in the dynamic heritage of Black Americans and American culture.
