SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. SUMMARY:Tinkering School NC
DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times. DESCRIPTION:New Beginnings Farm offers Summer Camps specializing in teaching basic balanced positions and horsemanship\, and in providing fun outdoor activities. They have beginner school horses perfect for the most beginner and timid of riders\, as well as intermediate/advanced horses who can school higher-level dressage movements and jump 3’3 courses. New Beginnings Farm is all about meeting individuals’ wants and needs\, so they can facilitate both English and Western riding. Riding sessions will include trail rides\, riding with cows\, mounted games\, jumping\, dressage\, lunge lessons\, and bareback riding\, depending on the camper’s riding level and desires.  \nWhen not riding\, campers will learn all about horse care and participate in horse-related arts and crafts. The day is finished off with a self-packed lunch and supervised swimming. Campers with their own horse are welcome to keep their horse at New Beginnings Farm for the duration of the camp at no additional charge. They keep their camp numbers low to provide a more personal and safe environment\, so be sure to let them know if you are interested in attending so they can reserve your spot! Each afternoon\, they offer a workshop with their guest artist specifically for creative exploration and rejuvenation for parents\, while other artists and camp counselors work with the children. Singing games provide a lively morning circle\, and days will end with a closing circle and a story told by Louise. \nThe cost is $350 for the first child + parents and $275 for each additional child. It is $50 for babies and toddlers under 2. Ages 2-8 and their parents are welcome. DESCRIPTION:Try your hand at an obscure Canadian board game with Crokinole at Fair Game Beverage Company\, hosted every third Wednesday\, 6pm-8pm in the Wheelhouse. Crokinole is a classic Canadian tabletop game — think shuffleboard meets curling\, shrunk onto a round wooden board. It’s easy to learn in a single round and genuinely fun whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned shooter\, and newcomers are always welcome. \nHere’s how it works: Two players (or four\, in teams) sit across from each other and take turns flicking small wooden discs from the outer edge toward the center of the board. The bullseye is a recessed hole in the middle worth 20 points; concentric scoring rings count for less the farther out you land. Guarding the center is a ring of eight small pegs that your disc has to navigate around. \nIf your opponent has any discs on the board\, your shot has to hit one of them. Miss\, and your disc is removed. If the board is clear\, you have to land inside the innermost peg ring\, or your disc comes off. So every turn is a choice between attacking your opponent’s pieces and quietly racking up points of your own. Discs are scored once all of them have been played\, and the higher total wins the round. \nCome early to sip and shop the Chatham Beverage District\, part of the Chatham County Craft Beverages & Country Inns Trail\, with local beers from bmc brewing\, wines and ciders from Starrlight\, spirits from Fair Game\, and sake from Koshu. DESCRIPTION:Come out for a night of baseball and watch Chatham Yardbirds vs Clayton Clovers at Paul Braxton Park on the following dates: \n\nSat\, Jun 6\, 7pm-10pm.\nWed\, Jun 17\, 7pm-10pm.\nMon\, Jun 29\, 7pm-10pm.\n\nGates typically open about an hour before first pitch. The team plays an Old North State League schedule against opponents from across North Carolina and southern Virginia\, with most games on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons or nights. Tickets are general admission and inexpensive\, so families tend to show up in groups\, find seats close to the action\, and stay through the seventh-inning stretch. \nThe pace is the appeal. Wood bats sound different from the metal you hear at most amateur fields\, the players are all college athletes spending their summer chasing reps\, and the gap between the action and the crowd is small enough that you can hear the catcher talking. Between innings\, the staff runs the kinds of small-park promotions that summer collegiate leagues have built their reputation on: t-shirt tosses\, on-field contests\, kids chasing foul balls in the gravel. If one of those players is staying with a host family two streets over\, you might see him at the diner the next morning.
