DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Week Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Sat\, May 23-Wed\, May 27\, 9am-4pm\, is about creativity\, relaxation\, and sisterhood in equal measure. You’ll feel rested\, nurtured\, befriended\, and inspired. Camp days will include movement\, thanksgiving\, play\, a selection of different workshops\, leisurely lunches\, a check-in with a small group\, and circles to begin and end the day. Along with lots of permission to do what you are called to do\, including a lot of beautiful “nothing” if that is what you choose\, Clapping Hands Farm invites you to bring home a new commitment to yourself and the things that make you happy. \nLouise Omoto Kessel will be your guide for this week\, along with an excellent selection of guest artists. Louise is a storyteller and a printmaker\, and she loves to felt\, collage\, and make all manner of things. She is also the founder and director of Clapping Hands Farm and the mother of two young adults. \nTrans\, non-binary\, gender-fluid\, and gender-creative humans who want to participate in Women’s Week Camp are welcome! Ages 18+ are welcome. The cost is $325 per person. Scholarships are available\, and no one is turned away. Chatham County residents receive a $25 discount. You may sign up by the day. DESCRIPTION:Come out for a night of baseball and watch Chatham Yardbirds vs Carolina Yankees at the new Chatham Yardbirds field on the following dates: \n\nWed\, May 27\, 7pm-10pm First Home Game of the Season!\nFri\, Jun 12\, 7pm-10pm.\n\nGates typically open about an hour before first pitch. The team plays an Old North State League schedule against opponents from across North Carolina and southern Virginia\, with most games on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons or nights. Tickets are general admission and inexpensive\, so families tend to show up in groups\, find seats close to the action\, and stay through the seventh-inning stretch. \nThe pace is the appeal. Wood bats sound different from the metal you hear at most amateur fields\, the players are all college athletes spending their summer chasing reps\, and the gap between the action and the crowd is small enough that you can hear the catcher talking. Between innings\, the staff runs the kinds of small-park promotions that summer collegiate league has built its reputation on: t-shirt tosses\, on-field contests\, kids chasing foul balls in the gravel. If one of those players is staying with a host family two streets over\, you might see him at the diner the next morning. That’s the trade summer ball makes for not being a major-league night out: you get closer to the game\, and closer to the people playing it. \nVisiting from out of town? Pair a Yardbirds game with dinner in downtown Siler City beforehand\, or a slow drive home through Chatham County’s farm roads after the final out. \nWeather\nPack layers for night games\, as central North Carolina evenings can drop into the 60s in early summer. Summer thunderstorms are routine in the Piedmont\, and games can be delayed\, suspended\, or postponed. Check the Yardbirds’ Instagram\, Facebook\, or website on iffy weather days before driving out. The team sets refund and rain-check policies. \nLogistics\nOn-site and street parking will be available. This event takes place outdoors\, and the field is lighted for evening games. A concession stand operates at the complex with standard ballpark fare. This is a family-friendly event\, with group tickets available.
