A walk in Siler City’s historic district (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) is a visit to a variety of shops, art galleries and studios, and eateries.

For more than 120 years, the Farmers' Alliance Store has invested itself in the families who invest in it. The North Carolina Arts Incubator is filled with working artists and their adjoining studios. Have lunch, coffee, and/or dessert downtown. Experience musical events, exhibits, demonstrations, and workshops throughout the year. Attend Third Friday ArtWalks (monthly, year-round) or our Siler City Alive Festival every May.

History at a glance
The largest town in the county owes its site and name to Samuel Siler, who in 1884 donated the land for a rail depot on the newly built Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railway connecting Sanford and Greensboro.

The town of Siler City was chartered on March 7, 1887.

The Hadley Hotel opened in the spring of 1908 at 130 N. Chatham Avenue. It had what was termed Water Works, piped water for the basin in the rooms, water closets and bath tubs. This was the first installation of this convenience in the town. The structure still stands today.

The last residence and burial site of Francis Bavier known as “Aunt Bee” of The Andy Griffith Show.
