DESCRIPTION

Just a few miles south of Siler City off Old US Route 421 on Mount Vernon Springs Road are two natural springs pouring clean mineral waters named Health and Beauty. The peaceful area was once a famous health spa, Mt. Vernon Springs, and it attracted ailing people from far and wide.

Local legend has it that the new name for the springs was suggested by John Washington, a descendent of George, who built a home near them for his health around that time. The springs are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mt. Vernon Springs is a spring house that has two pipes with free flowing water and an old concrete bridge that led to a path to go to the hotel.

Nearby is the Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church with old Gothic Revival style structure, and a cemetery.
