C.A.S.T. (Catch A Sure Thing!)

This program is designed for ages 6 to 12 who have little to no experience with fishing and who want to learn. Participants will learn basic fishing skills: how bait a hook, which fish are found in Jordan Lake, and, if willing, how to unhook the fish! No worries about casting. Youth will learn how to use a bobber and will sink the line straight off the dock. While on the dock, all youth will wear a PFD for safety regulations.
Group size is limited and reservations are required. Dress according to the weather and if needed, bring water, sunscreen, hat and/or sunglasses. Fishing pole, bait and PFD will be provided. Meet at Visitor Center
Questions or to reserve, contact Ranger Steve McMurray, 919.362.0586, ext 219.

Monthly sky watching sessions are free and open to the public. The event is hosted by the staff from Morehead Planetarium.

Take an informal tour of the constellations with a Morehead Planet SC educator; telescopic views of beautiful objects, including planets, nebulae, star clusters and, of course, the Moon when available, and discuss constellation myths and legends. Check the "News" listing at the home page of www.moreheadplanetarium.org or call Guest Relations at 919.962.1236 on the day of the sky watching session to be sure weather conditions will permit us to host this outdoor activity. Meet at: Ebenezer Church Recreation Area.

Haunted Trail Hike

Hike begins and ends at The Children's Trail at Parkers Creek Shelter #3. This is an easy loop trail about half-mile long. Since this hike is after dark the trail will be marked with orange flagging tape. Rangers will be stationed along the trail teaching hikers about the real "wild night life" of Jordan Lake. Other sections of the trail will be haunted by forest spirits, hodags, and hoo doos. Bring hiking shoes, bug spray, flashlights, and an imagination! For more info email Robin Kalish or Brock Martin.
